For various reasons Aang is not my favorite (except when he is and it’s related to his culture and pacifism) but I like that he knows how to have fun. It’s one of his strengths. I want him to have a prank war with Zuko, who takes it Very Seriously. Aang’s special lesson is Fun. Zuko doesn’t like fun, however.

#remember how aang talked about how he and zuko could have been friends?
Aang’s power is fun- more so even than his status as the Avatar. It’s because he understands the value of simply joy, like penguin-sledding and having a pet. He knows what he’s fighting for. It’s why I never understand the “Aang’s pacifism makes him a bad leader” argument- it’s the pacifism that allows him to be a leader. Because he values life. He knows not to waste it. He knows that the solution to death is not more death. He’s not Ozai- and that’s why he wins. Hell, that’s the whole point of the narrative, and imo, having him turn to violence would be a betrayal of the principles the story is founded on.

So much truth. I love this show for understanding that not every narrative has to be about violence and death and hopelessness and ~everyone is morally grey~~ to be profound and meaningful. Aang’s struggle to find a way to defeat Ozai without compromising his beliefs is really special, not to mention culturally resonant.
